**Albert Brenner** (February 17, 1926 – December 8, 2022) was an American [production designer](/source/Production_designer) and [art director](/source/Art_director#In_film). His numerous credits included *[Bullitt](/source/Bullitt)* (1968), *[Monte Walsh](/source/Monte_Walsh_(1970_film))* (1970), *[The Goodbye Girl](/source/The_Goodbye_Girl)* (1977), *[Coma](/source/Coma_(1978_film))* (1978), *[The Presidio](/source/The_Presidio_(film))* (1988), *[Pretty Woman](/source/Pretty_Woman)* (1990), *[Backdraft](/source/Backdraft_(film))* (1991), and *[Mr. Saturday Night](/source/Mr._Saturday_Night)* (1992).[1]

Born in New York, Brenner was a graduate of the New York School of Industrial Arts and he worked on department store window displays before [World War II](/source/World_War_II).[2] After serving as an [Army Air Force](/source/United_States_Army_Air_Forces) [gunner](/source/Air_gunner) during the War, he was a graduate student at the [Yale Drama School](/source/David_Geffen_School_of_Drama_at_Yale_University) and later taught scenic design, costume design and technical theatre at the University of Kansas City.[2] After returning to New York in the early 1950s, Brenner worked in theater as an assistant to designer Sam Leve.[3] He designed live television programs for ABC and CBS, as well as television commercials and industrial films.[1] Other television credits are *[Car 54, Where Are You](/source/Car_54%2C_Where_Are_You%3F)* (1961) and *[The Phil Silvers Show](/source/The_Phil_Silvers_Show)* (1955).[1]

Brenner was nominated for five [Academy Awards](/source/Academy_Awards) in the category [Best Art Direction](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design).[4] In 2003, he was a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors Guild.[1]

Brenner died on December 8, 2022, at the age of 96.[5]
