Historically, Alba de Jos County was located in the central-western part of [Greater Romania](/source/Greater_Romania), in the southwestern part of [Transylvania](/source/Transylvania), with a territory identical with the old [Alsó-Fehér County](/source/Als%C3%B3-Feh%C3%A9r_County) of Hungary. After the administrative unification law in 1925, the name of the county changed to Alba County and the territory was reorganized. It was bordered on the west by [Hunedoara County](/source/Hunedoara_County), to the north by [Turda County](/source/Turda_County), and to the east by the counties of [Sibiu](/source/Sibiu_County) and [Târnava-Mică](/source/T%C3%A2rnava-Mic%C4%83_County). Its territory included the central part of the current Alba County.
