# Alannah Mathews

**Alannah Mathews** (born 9 April 1999)[2] is an Australian group [rhythmic gymnast](/source/Rhythmic_gymnast) who represented [Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics](/source/Australia_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics).[2]

## Career

Mathews began rhythmic gymnastics when she was eight years old because her mother wanted her to engage in a sport.[3]

Mathews began competing with Australia's senior rhythmic gymnastics group in 2015. At the [2018 World Championships](/source/2018_Rhythmic_Gymnastics_World_Championships), the group finished twenty-ninth in the all-around.[4] This was the first time an Australian group had competed at the [World Championships](/source/Rhythmic_Gymnastics_World_Championships) in ten years.[3] She represented [Australia at the 2019 Summer Universiade](/source/Australia_at_the_2019_Summer_Universiade).[5] She finished seventh in the group all-around,[6] seventh in the 5 [balls](/source/Ball_(rhythmic_gymnastics)) final,[7] and fifth in the 3 [hoops](/source/Hoop_(rhythmic_gymnastics)) + 4 [clubs](/source/Clubs_(rhythmic_gymnastics)) final.[8]

Mathews won a gold medal at the 2021 Oceanic Championships with the Australian senior group and [qualified a quota for the 2020 Olympic Games](/source/Gymnastics_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Qualification). She was selected to represent [Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics](/source/Australia_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics) alongside [Emily Abbot](/source/Emily_Abbot), [Alexandra Aristoteli](/source/Alexandra_Aristoteli), [Himeka Onoda](/source/Himeka_Onoda), and [Felicity White](/source/Felicity_White).[9] They were the first rhythmic gymnastics group to represent [Australia at the Olympics](/source/Australia_at_the_Olympics).[10] They finished fourteenth in the qualification round for [the group all-around](/source/Gymnastics_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_rhythmic_group_all-around).[11]
