# Alan Leishman

**Alan Leishman** is a now retired Australian garden administrator and amateur [ornithologist](/source/Ornithologist). He previously worked for the [Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney](/source/Royal_Botanic_Gardens,_Sydney). He is a [bird-bander](/source/Bird_banding) and has had a long association with the [Australian Bird Study Association](/source/Australian_Bird_Study_Association), serving as foundation editor of its journal *[Corella](/source/Corella_(journal))* 1977–1983, and production editor 1984–1989. In 1998 he was awarded the [RAOU](/source/Royal_Australasian_Ornithologists_Union)'s [John Hobbs Medal](/source/John_Hobbs_Medal) for outstanding contributions to Australian ornithology as an amateur.
