Born in [Birkenhead](/source/Birkenhead), Merseyside, Goodall started by playing for Poulton Victoria in Wallasey playing in midfield and then joined [League of Wales](/source/League_of_Wales) club [Bangor City](/source/Bangor_City_F.C.) in the summer of 2001. In his first season at the [Farrar Road](/source/Farrar_Road_Stadium) club, he played in the [Welsh Cup](/source/Welsh_Cup) final picking up a runners-up medal in the defeat against [Barry Town](/source/Barry_Town) at Park Avenue, [Aberystwyth](/source/Aberystwyth).

He was part of the team that lost narrowly in the 2002–03 [UEFA Cup](/source/UEFA_Europa_League) against [FK Sartid](/source/FK_Sartid) and 2003–04 [UEFA Intertoto Cup](/source/UEFA_Intertoto_Cup) losing to [Gloria Bistriţa](/source/Gloria_Bistri%C5%A3a). In 91 [League of Wales](/source/League_of_Wales) appearances for City, Goodall scored ten goals. Towards the end of the 2003–04 season, he spent time on trial at [Wrexham A.F.C.](/source/Wrexham), before joining Rochdale alongside Karl Hughes in the summer of 2004.

At the end of the 2005–06 season, Goodall's second at [Spotland](/source/Spotland), he had made 74 [League Two](/source/EFL_League_Two) appearances scoring five times. In 2016, Goodall joined [Altrincham](/source/Altrincham_F.C.) of the [National League North](/source/National_League_North). He made nineteen league appearances during the season, which concluded with relegation from the National League.
