# Alan Day

English cricketer

**Alan Richard Day** (12 November 1938 – 2022) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). He was a right-handed batsman.[1]

Day was born in [Muswell Hill](/source/Muswell_Hill) in [North London](/source/North_London), and attended [Aldenham School](/source/Aldenham_School) in [Hertfordshire](/source/Hertfordshire).[2][1] He made his [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) debut in 1957 for [Middlesex Second XI](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club), playing two matches. He didn't play another match in the competition until 1962, when he joined [Hertfordshire](/source/Hertfordshire_County_Cricket_Club). He played regularly for Hertfordshire until 1975, and then for [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire_County_Cricket_Club) from 1977 to 1980.[3] He made his one-day debut in the 1966 [Gillette Cup](/source/Friends_Provident_Trophy) for Hertfordshire against Berkshire, and played five [List A matches](/source/List_A_cricket) in total between 1966 and 1974.[4] He top-scored with 53 when Hertfordshire beat [Devon](/source/Devon_County_Cricket_Club) in the first round of the Gillette Cup in 1969.[5]

Day's only [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) appearance came for [Marylebone Cricket Club](/source/Marylebone_Cricket_Club) (MCC) in 1968, against [Ireland](/source/Ireland_national_cricket_team). He scored 5 runs in the match, which finished in a draw.[6] In all, he played 129 matches for MCC between 1961 and 1988.[7] In club cricket for [Hornsey](/source/Hornsey) Cricket Club and other cricket matches he scored more than 100 [centuries](/source/Century_(cricket)).[8]

Day died in 2022, aged 83.[7]
