**Alan Chikin Chow** (born November 15, 1998) is an American actor, [digital creator](/source/Content_creation), producer, writer, and [influencer](/source/Influencer).[1][2][3] He is the [highest-ranking YouTube shorts creator](/source/YouTube_shorts) with over 100 million subscribers and the creator of the [YouTube](/source/YouTube) series Alan's Universe.[4][5][6][7] As of May 2025, he has the [17th most subscribed channel on YouTube](/source/List_of_most-subscribed_YouTube_channels). Chow's channel ranks in the [top 50 most-subscribed YouTube channels](/source/List_of_most-subscribed_YouTube_channels) and [most viewed YouTube channels](/source/List_of_most-viewed_YouTube_channels) in the world. ## Early life

Alan was born and raised in [Plano, Texas](/source/Plano%2C_Texas). His father is an engineer at [NASA](/source/NASA) and his mother is the owner of a [preschool](/source/Preschool).[10] His brother Alvan Chow is an investor and a cast-member of the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) documentary *Eat the Rich*.[11]

Alan earned his Bachelors Degree from [USC](/source/University_of_Southern_California) studying [screenwriting](/source/Screenwriting) and [business administration](/source/Business_administration).[12] His career in content creation also started during his time at USC as a way to make his family laugh.[12]

## Career

Chow began as a model for [JC Penney](/source/JCPenney), then booked acting roles on *[I Didn’t Do It](/source/I_Didn't_Do_It_(TV_series))*, *[Grey’s Anatomy](/source/Grey's_Anatomy)*, and *[Into the Dark](/source/Into_the_Dark_(TV_series))*.[8] He also voiced characters in anime series including *One Piece*.[8]

He started uploading [YouTube](/source/YouTube) videos, quickly becoming the most-watched Shorts creator in the United States.[9][13][14]

Chow launched *Alan’s Universe*, a high-school drama about love and friendship, which has over 1 billion views and has been featured on *[Good Morning America](/source/Good_Morning_America)* and *[CBS News](/source/CBS_News)*.[12][15][16]

In 2024, his channel entered YouTube’s global Top 50. He signed with CAA and opened a 10,000 square-foot production studio in [Burbank, California](/source/Burbank%2C_California), which was attended by [YouTube](/source/YouTube) CEO [Neal Mohan](/source/Neal_Mohan).[17][18] *Alan’s Universe* was also made available on [Roku TV](/source/Roku), [Amazon Prime Video](/source/Amazon_Prime_Video) and Tubi.[19][20][21]

Bloomberg has described Alan’s content as having the “DNA in classic American tween series such as *Boy Meets World*, a coming-of-age ’90s sitcom [and] the South Korean high school drama *Boys Over Flowers*” and compares it to the [Disney Channel](/source/Disney_Channel) or [Nickelodeon](/source/Nickelodeon) of the new age.[24]

In August 2025, he premiered a vertical [drama series](/source/Drama_(film_and_television)) titled Beauty and the Beat sponsored by the skincare company [Laneige](/source/Laneige) in partnership with [e-commerce](/source/E-commerce) company Superordinary.[25] The series garnered over 200M views across its 25 vertical episodes.[25][26]

In 2026, [Netflix](/source/Netflix%2C_Inc.) picked up Alan and [HYBE America’s](/source/Hybe) scripted k-pop [TV series](/source/Television_show). Jingu Jang, former Vice President of [BIGHIT Music](/source/Big_Hit_Music), joined the project as an [executive producer](/source/Executive_producer).[27][28] The series is described to follow a misfit crew of aspiring pop idols enrolled in an arts academy who come together to form a co-ed band.[29]

Alan launched a webcomic titled Alan’s Universe Forever: I’m Trapped in an Anime! in partnership with webcomic company Storygrounds.[30] An animated episode of Alan’s Universe was released alongside the [webcomic](/source/Webcomic).[30][31]
