# Alan Bock

American writer (1943–2011)

**Alan W. Bock** (December 3, 1943 – May 18, 2011)[1] was an [American](/source/United_States_of_America) [libertarian](/source/Libertarianism) author. He was a senior editorial writer and former editorial page editor for the *[Orange County Register](/source/Orange_County_Register)* for over 25 years.[2] He wrote regular columns for [WorldNetDaily](/source/WorldNetDaily), [LewRockwell.com](/source/LewRockwell.com), and [Antiwar.com](/source/Antiwar.com) and was a contributing editor at *[Liberty](/source/Liberty_(1987))* magazine.[2] He had also been published in *[The American Conservative](/source/The_American_Conservative)*.[3]

## Career

Bock was also an active public speaker having experience in radio and television. He spoke at such forums as the [Cato Institute](/source/Cato_Institute), [Reason Foundation](/source/Reason_Foundation), the [Drug Policy Foundation](/source/Drug_Policy_Foundation), [American Enterprise Institute](/source/American_Enterprise_Institute), Freedom Summit, the Liberty Editors' Conference and the Festival of Freedom. In the 1970s, Bock spent eight years in Washington, D.C., where he worked for two different congressmen. He then formed a libertarian lobbying organization called Libertarian Advocate. He also spent some time working as a radio talk-show host where he appeared on [CNN](/source/CNN), [Fox News](/source/Fox_News), [MSNBC](/source/MSNBC), [PBS](/source/PBS), and countless others. He contributed to *[Reason](/source/Reason_(magazine))*, *[Freeman](/source/The_Freeman)*, *[National Review](/source/National_Review)*, and *[Harvard Business Review](/source/Harvard_Business_Review)*.[2]

## Political views

Bock had been critical of both parties for their support of an aggressive foreign policy.[4] He had also been critical of [imperialism](/source/Imperialism) and nation-building, and believed that "the U.S. empire is in the process of winding down."[5]

## Death

Bock died on May 18, 2011, after entering hospice due to cancer.[6][7] He was 67 and was living in [Lake Elsinore, California](/source/Lake_Elsinore%2C_California).[2]
