Musical artist

**Alain Chamfort** (French pronunciation: [\[alɛ̃ ʃɑ̃fɔʁ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/French); born **Alain Joseph Yves Le Govic**; 2 March 1949) is a French singer of [Breton](/source/Brittany) origin.

## Life and career

Chamfort was a promising pianist in his youth, and the piano became his instrument of choice. His first band The Dreamers had minor success as a repertory [jazz](/source/Jazz) outfit, and was followed by a typically sixties rock music group Murator.

Chamfort met famed writer and producer [Jacques Dutronc](/source/Jacques_Dutronc), who proposed to help him with future works for television and film, and it is with Dutronc that Chamfort's career expanded. After being discovered by Dutronc, it was with [Claude François](/source/Claude_Fran%C3%A7ois) and ultimately [Serge Gainsbourg](/source/Serge_Gainsbourg) that he made a number of albums, including his first album recorded as Alain Chamfort: *[Poses](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Poses_(Alain_Chamfort_album)&action=edit&redlink=1) [[fr](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poses_(album_d%27Alain_Chamfort))]*. A single from the album, "[Manureva](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Manureva_(song)&action=edit&redlink=1) [[fr](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manureva_(chanson))]" remains one of the most famous songs to date by Chamfort, whose subject is the yacht *[Manureva](/source/Manureva)* which disappeared with her skipper [Alain Colas](/source/Alain_Colas) in 1978.

Chamfort composed for the cinema; he worked with [Jean-Pierre Mocky](/source/Jean-Pierre_Mocky) and with [Arnaud Sélignac](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Arnaud_S%C3%A9lignac&action=edit&redlink=1). As an actor, he appeared in the short *Men/Toys/Girl* in 2001.[1] In 2004, he became a member of the board of directors of [SACEM](/source/Soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_des_auteurs%2C_compositeurs_et_%C3%A9diteurs_de_musique).
