**Alaa Al Shbli** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): عَلَاء الشِّبْلِيّ; born 3 May 1989 in [Homs](/source/Homs), [Syria](/source/Syria)) is a [Syrian](/source/Syrian_people) international [footballer](/source/Association_football). He currently plays, which play in the [Qatari Second Division](/source/Qatari_Second_Division), the top division in [Qatar](/source/Qatar). He plays as a [right wingback](/source/Defender_(association_football)), wearing the shirt with number 15 for [Al-Karamah](/source/Al-Karamah_SC). For the [Syrian national football team](/source/Syria_national_football_team), he is currently wearing the shirt with the number 20. After he left [Zamalek SC](/source/Zamalek_SC), he signed for [Al-Masry SC](/source/Al-Masry_SC), but left the club 2 days later, as Al-Masry would not agree to the same salary Alaa had in mind. Alaa also is the third captain of the Syrian National team, as he is one of the oldest players in the current squad.

## International career

Al Shbli played between 2007 and 2008 for the Under-17 and the Under-19 Syrian national team. He was a part of the Syrian U-17 national team in the [FIFA U-17 World Cup 2007](/source/2007_FIFA_U-17_World_Cup).[1] in [South Korea](/source/South_Korea). He played against [Argentina](/source/Argentina_national_under-17_football_team), [Spain](/source/Spain_national_under-17_football_team) and [Honduras](/source/Honduras_U-17_national_football_team) in the group-stage of the [FIFA U-17 World Cup 2007](/source/2007_FIFA_U-17_World_Cup) and against [England](/source/England_national_under-17_football_team) in the Round of 16.

He played for the Syrian U-19 national team in the [AFC U-19 Championship 2008](/source/AFC_U-19_Championship_2008) in [Saudi Arabia](/source/Saudi_Arabia) and was a part of the Syrian U-23 national team in the [Mediterranean Games 2009](/source/Football_at_the_2009_Mediterranean_Games) in Italy.

He made his debut for the [Syria national team](/source/Syria_national_football_team) in the [2009 Nehru Cup](/source/Nehru_Cup_International_Football_Tournament_2009) in India. Senior national coach [Fajr Ibrahim](/source/Fajr_Ibrahim) called him up for the first time, and he debuted in Syria's opening match of the tournament against [Kyrgyzstan](/source/Kyrgyzstan_national_football_team) on 20 August 2009. He came on as a substitute for [Bakri Tarrab](/source/Bakri_Tarrab) in the second half.
