**Al-Jaish Sports Club** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): نادي الجيش الرياضي) is a professional [football](/source/Football_(soccer)) club based in [Damascus](/source/Damascus), [Syria](/source/Syria) that competes in the [Syrian Premier League](/source/Syrian_Premier_League). It was founded in 1947.[1] The club plays at the [Al-Fayhaa Stadium](/source/Al-Fayhaa_Stadium_(Damascus)) in Damascus. The team colors are red and white.[2] Al-Jaish have won 17 official [league titles](/source/Syrian_Premier_League), 9 [Syrian Cups](/source/Syrian_Cup) and 3 [Syrian Super Cups](/source/Syrian_Super_Cup). Between 2015 and 2019, it won five consecutive league titles. Al-Jaish have won the domestic [double](/source/Double_(association_football)) four times.

In [2004](/source/2004_AFC_Cup), Al-Jaish became the first Syrian club to ever win the [AFC Cup](/source/AFC_Cup), defeating [Al-Wahda SC](/source/Al-Wahda_SC_(Syria)) in the final. Al-Jaish have participated in the group stage of the [AFC Champions League](/source/AFC_Champions_League) and have previously reached the finals of the [Arab Club Champions Cup](/source/Arab_Club_Champions_Cup), [Arab Cup Winners' Cup](/source/Arab_Cup_Winners'_Cup) twice and [Arab Super Cup](/source/Arab_Super_Cup) once.[3][4]

## History

The club was founded in 1947. In its history, the club was the champion of Syria seventeen times.[5] They also won nine [Syrian Cups](/source/Syria_Cup) in 1967, 1986, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2014 and 2018, and three [Syrian Super Cups](/source/Syrian_Super_Cup) in 2013, 2018 and 2019.[6]

In 2004, the club also achieved international success. In the [AFC Cup](/source/AFC_Cup) finals they defeated on aggregate [Al-Wahda Damascus](/source/Al-Wahda_Damascus) (3:2, 0:1).[7]

[Abbasiyyin Stadium](/source/Abbasiyyin_Stadium) is located in the centre of Damascus, directly behind the district Al-Sufanyya. After the most recent renovation in March 2011, Abbasiyyin Stadium was turned into an all-seater stadium and the capacity was reduced to 30,000 seats.[8]
