== Biography ==
He was born in Dalāṣ,<ref>{{cite book |last1=Ibn Shākir al-Kutubī |author-link=Ibn Shākir al-Kutubī |first1=Muḥammad |title=Fawāt al-wafāyāt |date=1974 |publisher=Dar Ṣādir |location=Beirut |page=362 (vol. 4) |edition=1st |url=https://shamela.ws/book/1003/1248 |access-date=8 April 2022}}</ref> a small town in [Beni Suef Governorate](/source/Beni_Suef_Governorate) in [Egypt](/source/Egypt) (despite the similar name, this town is not to be confused with [Dellys](/source/Dellys), in [Algeria](/source/Algeria)), and wrote under the patronage of Ibn Hinna, the [vizier](/source/vizier). His father was from [Abusir](/source/Abusir), hence his [nisba](/source/Nisba_(onomastics)) ''Al-Būṣīrī''. Sometimes, he also used his nisbe ''Dalāṣīrī'' as his mother belonged to the town of Dalāṣ.<ref name="İÂ" />

In his ''[al-Burda](/source/al-Burda)'', he claims that Muhammad cured him of [paralysis](/source/paralysis) by appearing to him in a dream and wrapping him in a mantle. The poem has had a unique history (cf. [Ignác Goldziher](/source/Ign%C3%A1c_Goldziher) in ''Revue de l'histoire des religions'', vol. xxxi. pp. 304 ff.). It has been frequently edited and made the basis for other poems, and new poems have been made by interpolating four or six lines after each line of the original. It has been published with [English](/source/English_language) translation by Faizullabhai ([Bombay](/source/Bombay), 1893), with [French](/source/French_language) translation by [René Basset](/source/Ren%C3%A9_Basset) (Paris, 1894), with [German](/source/German_language) translation by C. A. Ralfs (Vienna, 1860), and in other languages elsewhere.<ref name="EB1911">{{EB1911|inline=1 |wstitle=Būṣīrī |volume=4 |page=873}}</ref>
