# Akin Island

**Akin Island** (Bulgarian: остров Акин, ˈɔstrof ɐˈkin) is a wide, rocky island 280 m long in southeast-northwest direction and 100 m lying off the north coast of [Nelson Island](/source/Nelson_Island_(South_Shetland_Islands)) in the [South Shetland Islands](/source/South_Shetland_Islands), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica). It is “named after Akin Point on the [Bulgarian Black Sea Coast](/source/Bulgarian_Black_Sea_Coast).”[1]

## Location

Akin Island is located at [62°13′41.5″S 59°05′50″W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=62_13_41.5_S_59_05_50_W), which is 2.35 km west-northwest of [Cariz Point](/source/Cariz_Point), 2.02 km north-northeast of [Baklan Point](/source/Baklan_Point), 2.14 km east-northeast of [Withem Island](/source/Withem_Island), 1.12 km south of [Nancy Rock](/source/Nancy_Rock) and 100 m north-northeast of [Fregata Island](/source/Fregata_Island).
