'''Akfadou''' is a [commune](/source/List_of_communes_of_Algeria) in northern [Algeria](/source/Algeria) in the [Béjaïa Province](/source/B%C3%A9ja%C3%AFa_Province). This locale is noted for its local population of [Barbary macaque](/source/Barbary_macaque)s, ''Macaca sylvanus''.<ref>C. Michael Hogan, 2008</ref>

== Etymology ==
The name Akfadou is a contraction of the words "akfuḍ̣̣" and "aḍ̣̣U" which respectively mean "multiple or excess" and "wind". This name recalls the harsh climate in this region especially in winter when the cold winds gust and heavy snows often isolate small villages. During the exploration of Kabylia by the French occupation in 1850, the word Akfadou was translated as the top wind ({{Langx|fr|cime au vent}}).<ref>Ernest Carette, ''Explorations scientifique de l’Algérie, étude de la Kabylie proprement dite'', 1849, {{p.|57}}.</ref><ref> [V. == Economy ==
