**Akadimia** ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Ακαδημία, pronounced [\[a.ka.ðiˈmi.a\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Greek)), literally "Academy", is a neighborhood in central [Athens](/source/Athens), [Greece](/source/Greece).

Located directly north and slight west of [Syntagma Square](/source/Syntagma_Square), it is bounded by [Akadimias Street](/source/Akadimias_Street), [Panepistimiou Street](/source/Panepistimiou_Street), Solonos Street and [Stadiou Street](/source/Stadiou_Street). It is named after the [Academy of Athens](/source/Academy_of_Athens_(modern)), since this was the first educational building to be built there in 1859. One of the busiest areas of Athens, many important buildings are found here.

The [Panepistimio metro station](/source/Panepistimio_metro_station_(Athens)) serves [Line 2](/source/Line_2_(Athens_Metro)) of the [Athens Metro](/source/Athens_Metro), while there is a [tram stop](/source/Athens_Tram) at Plateia Klafthmonos.
