***Akşam*** (*Evening*) is a Turkish newspaper founded in 1918, owned by Zeki Yeşildağ's Türk Medya Grup (T Medya Yatırım San. ve Tic. AŞ.) since 2013.[6][1][2] In 2013 it had a circulation of around 100,000.

## History

*Akşam'*s founders in 1918 included [Necmettin Sadak](/source/Necmettin_Sadak), [Kazım Şinasi Dersan](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kaz%C4%B1m_%C5%9Einasi_Dersan&action=edit&redlink=1), [Falih Rıfkı Atay](/source/Falih_R%C4%B1fk%C4%B1_Atay) and [Ali Naci Karacan](/source/Ali_Naci_Karacan).

Former editors include [Doğan Özgüden](/source/Do%C4%9Fan_%C3%96zg%C3%BCden) (1964–1966).[7]

In 2010, former editor [Semra Pelek](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Semra_Pelek&action=edit&redlink=1) and editorial manager [Mustafa Dolu](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mustafa_Dolu&action=edit&redlink=1) were charged in relation to reporting on the [Ergenekon trials](/source/Ergenekon_trials).[8]

*Akşam* was owned by the [Çukurova Media Group](/source/%C3%87ukurova_Media_Group) from 1997 to 2013, and previously [Mehmet Ali Ilıcak](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mehmet_Ali_Il%C4%B1cak&action=edit&redlink=1). It is currently owned by the Turkish government's [TMSF](/source/TMSF). Shortly after it was acquired by the TMSF, a number of journalists were fired, with the former AKP deputy [Mehmet Ocaktan](/source/Mehmet_Ocaktan) replacing editor of five years [İsmail Küçükkaya](/source/%C4%B0smail_K%C3%BC%C3%A7%C3%BCkkaya), and at least four journalists who had been critical of the government being fired.[9]

On 19 July 2013 *Akşam* was sold (together with TV channel [Sky Turk 360](/source/Sky_Turk_360) and radio station [Alem FM](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alem_FM&action=edit&redlink=1)) to a [Cengiz](/source/Cengiz_Holding)-Kolin-[Limak](/source/Limak_Holding) joint venture for TL60m.[10] In September 2013, [Cengiz](/source/Cengiz_Holding)-Kolin-[Limak](/source/Limak_Holding) withdrew from the attempt to buy *Akşam*.[11] In October 2013, *Akşam*, TV channel [Sky Turk 360](/source/Sky_Turk_360), radio station [Alem FM](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alem_FM&action=edit&redlink=1) and Alem Magazine were sold to [Ethem Sancak](/source/Ethem_Sancak).[12]

In August 2017, Zeki Yeşildağ acquired the newspaper as part of Es Yayıncılık.[4][13]
