French ultralight trike

Skypper General information Type Ultralight trike National origin France Manufacturer Air Creation Status In production (2013) History Introduction date 2011

The **Air Creation Skypper** is a French [ultralight trike](/source/Ultralight_trike), designed and produced by [Air Creation](/source/Air_Creation) of [Aubenas](/source/Aubenas). The aircraft was introduced in 2011 and is supplied complete and ready-to-fly.[1]

## Design and development

The Skypper was designed as a simpler, lighter and less expensive carriage than the top-of-the line [Air Creation Tanarg](/source/Air_Creation_Tanarg), to replace the [Air Creation GT](/source/Air_Creation_GT) series in production. It was intended to comply with the [Fédération Aéronautique Internationale](/source/F%C3%A9d%C3%A9ration_A%C3%A9ronautique_Internationale) [microlight](/source/Microlight) category. It features a [cable-braced](/source/Flying_wires) [hang glider](/source/Hang_glider)-style [high-wing](/source/High-wing), weight-shift controls, a two-seats-in-[tandem](/source/Tandem), open cockpit, [tricycle landing gear](/source/Tricycle_landing_gear) with [wheel pants](/source/Wheel_pants) and a single engine in [pusher configuration](/source/Pusher_configuration).[1]

The aircraft is made from bolted-together [aluminium](/source/Aluminium) tubing, with its double surface wing covered in [Dacron](/source/Dacron) sailcloth. The wing is supported by a single tube-type [kingpost](/source/Kingpost) and uses an "A" frame weight-shift control bar. Available powerplants include the a twin cylinder, liquid-cooled, [two-stroke](/source/Two-stroke), [dual-ignition](/source/Dual-ignition) 64 hp (48 kW) [Rotax 582](/source/Rotax_582) engine, the four cylinder, air and liquid-cooled, [four-stroke](/source/Four-stroke), dual-ignition 80 hp (60 kW) [Rotax 912UL](/source/Rotax_912UL) or 100 hp (75 kW) [Rotax 912ULS](/source/Rotax_912ULS) engine and the twin cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke, [dual-ignition](/source/Dual-ignition) 60 hp (45 kW) [HKS 700E](/source/HKS_700E).[1]

With the Rotax 582 the aircraft has an empty weight of 201 kg (443 lb) and a gross weight of 462 kg (1,019 lb), giving a useful load of 261 kg (575 lb). With full fuel of 55 litres (12 imp gal; 15 US gal) the payload is 221 kg (487 lb).[1]

A number of different wings can be fitted to the basic carriage, including the [Air Creation NuviX](/source/Air_Creation_NuviX), [Fun 450](/source/Air_Creation_Fun), [iFun 16](/source/Air_Creation_Fun), [iXess 13](/source/Air_Creation_iXess) and the [BioniX](/source/Air_Creation_BioniX).[1][2][3]

When equipped with the Bionix wing and Rotax 912 engine the Skypper was [€](/source/Euro)6,300 cheaper than the more sophisticated [Air Creation Tanarg](/source/Air_Creation_Tanarg) with the same engine and wing, in 2011.[1]
