The '''Agate Pass Bridge''' is a [structural steel](/source/structural_steel) [truss](/source/Trusses) [cantilever bridge](/source/cantilever_bridge) spanning [Agate Pass](/source/Agate_Pass), connecting [Bainbridge Island](/source/Bainbridge_Island) to the [Kitsap Peninsula](/source/Kitsap_Peninsula).  It was built in 1950, and it replaced a car ferry service which dated from the 1920s.<ref>{{cite book |last1=Kline |first1=Mary |last2=Bayless |first2=George |author-link= |date=1983 |title=Ferryboats: legend on Puget Sound |location=Seattle |publisher=Bayless Books |page=140 |isbn=0-914515-00-4}}</ref> The bridge provides a direct route along [Washington State Route 305](/source/Washington_State_Route_305) between [Seattle](/source/Seattle), via the [Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry](/source/Seattle-Bainbridge_Island_ferry), and the [Kitsap Peninsula](/source/Kitsap_Peninsula).

The original construction cost of $1,351,363 was paid out of the motor vehicle fund, and operated as a [toll bridge](/source/toll_bridge) from October 7, 1950, until October 1, 1951, when costs were repaid by a [bond issue](/source/bond_issue) passed by the [Washington State Legislature](/source/Washington_State_Legislature).
