# Against the Head

***Against the Head*** is a weekly [rugby](/source/Rugby_union) magazine programme, broadcast on [RTÉ Two](/source/RT%C3%89_Two) and presented by [Joanne Cantwell](/source/Joanne_Cantwell) with regular panellists [Shane Byrne](/source/Shane_Byrne_(rugby_union)), and [Irish Times](/source/The_Irish_Times) rugby correspondent Gerry Thornley with various other guests throughout the series. The programme goes out on a Monday night usually running for thirty minutes and has been broadcast since 2003. It was previously presented by [Con Murphy](/source/Con_Murphy_(RT%C3%89)) until 2008.[1]

The programme brings viewers a mix of interviews, highlights and reviews, as well as discussion on the burning issues in Irish [rugby](/source/Rugby_union). The series runs for the busiest period of the rugby season usually from February to May, and takes in the [RBS 6 Nations Championship](/source/Six_Nations_Championship), [Heineken Cup](/source/Heineken_Cup) and [AIB League](/source/All-Ireland_League_(rugby_union)) and Cup, and brings its audience the latest news on developments within the game.[2]
