**Afton** (also **Middledale**) is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area#United_States) in the [Town of Rock](/source/Rock%2C_Rock_County%2C_Wisconsin), in [Rock County](/source/Rock_County%2C_Wisconsin), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin), United States.[2] The town hall for the Town of Rock is in Afton.[3]

## History

Originally called Middletown, the community was renamed *circa* 1857–8 after the poem *[Sweet Afton](/source/Sweet_Afton)* by [Robert Burns](/source/Robert_Burns).[4]
