# Adrian Youings

**Adrian Youings** (born [Romford](/source/Romford), 30 July 1965)[1][2] is a British Anglican priest who served as [Archdeacon of Bath](/source/Archdeacon_of_Bath) in the [Diocese of Bath and Wells](/source/Diocese_of_Bath_and_Wells) from his collation on 5 November 2017[3] until his resignation in June 2024.[4]

## Early life and education

Youings studied [biological sciences](/source/Biological_sciences) at [Exeter University](/source/Exeter_University), graduating with a [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) (BSc) degree in 1986.[5][6] He then undertook a PhD in yeast physiology at the [University of Bath](/source/University_of_Bath).[3] His [doctoral thesis](/source/Doctoral_thesis) was completed in 1990 and was titled "Anaerobic growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with respect to uptake of cholesterol and cider fermentation".[7] From 1993 to 1996, he studied theology and trained for ordained ministry at [Wycliffe Hall, Oxford](/source/Wycliffe_Hall,_Oxford).[3][5]

## Ordained ministry

He was [ordained](/source/Ordained) [deacon](/source/Deacon) in 1996, and [priest](/source/Priest) in 1997. After [curacies](/source/Curate) in [Dorking](/source/Dorking) and [Croydon](/source/Croydon)[8] he was the [Rector](/source/Rector_(ecclesiastical)) of [Trull](/source/Trull) from 2005 to 2017, and [Rural Dean](/source/Rural_Dean) of [Taunton](/source/Taunton) from 2015 to 2017.[9]
