'''Adolf Rusch von Ingweiler''' (ca. 1435 – 26 May 1489 in [Straßburg](/source/Strasbourg)) was a notable German printer and publisher. He was the first printer north of the Alps to print in [Antiqua](/source/Antiqua_(typeface_class)).

== Life and work ==

Rusch was probably born at [Ingweiler](/source/Ingwiller) in Alsace.<ref name=":0">{{Cite book |last=Halporn |first=Barbara |url=https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/004157257 |title=The correspondence of Johann Amerbach: early printing in its social context |date=2000 |publisher=University of Michigan Press |isbn=978-0-472-11137-4 |series= |location=Ann Arbor |pages=13}}</ref> Before 1488{{Cn|date=January 2023}} he married Salome Mentelin, a daughter of the well-known Straßburg printer [Johannes Mentelin](/source/Johannes_Mentelin), in whose printing shop he assisted.<ref name=":0" /> He used to cooperate with [Johann Amerbach](/source/Johann_Amerbach), a printer from [Basel](/source/Basel), from which he used some sets of [types](/source/Sort_(typesetting)) in 1481.<ref>Halporn, Barbara (2000).p.14</ref> In the ''Rationale divinorum officium'', printed by Rusch in or before 1474, he was the first to use the [Antiqua](/source/Antiqua_(typeface_class)) type which had originated in Italy; in this type Rusch issued Latin classics, including works by [Plutarch](/source/Plutarch) and [Seneca](/source/Seneca_the_Younger). Jointly with Mentelin he produced theological and medical works, in the Mentelin typeface. Rusch left behind an extensive correspondence.

In the 19th century his work had not yet been attributed to him and was ascribed to the R-printer because of the peculiar shape of the capital 'R' used by him.
