***Adeva!*** is the debut [album](/source/Album) by American singer [Adeva](/source/Adeva), released in 1989. It features the singles "[Respect](/source/Respect_(song))" ([UK](/source/UK_Singles_Chart) No. 17[2]), "Musical Freedom (Free At Last)" (UK No. 22[2]), "Warning!" (UK No. 17[2]), "I Thank You" (UK No. 17[2]), "Beautiful Love" (UK No. 57[2]) and "Treat Me Right" (UK No. 62[2]). The album was particularly successful in the United Kingdom, where it reached No. 6 in the [UK Albums Chart](/source/UK_Albums_Chart)[2] and was certified platinum by the [British Phonographic Industry](/source/British_Phonographic_Industry) for UK sales exceeding 300,000 copies.[1]

## Critical reception

In a retrospective review for [AllMusic](/source/AllMusic), Alex Henderson praised "big-voiced" Adeva's "aggressive, gospel-influenced belting", calling it "a throwback to the days of [Gloria Gaynor](/source/Gloria_Gaynor), [Grace Jones](/source/Grace_Jones), [Linda Clifford](/source/Linda_Clifford), and [Loleatta Holloway](/source/Loleatta_Holloway).[3]
