He was born on 17 September 1905,<ref>[“Who was Who" 1897-2007](/source/Who's_Who) London, [A & C Black](/source/A_%26_C_Black), 2007 {{ISBN|978-0-19-954087-7}}</ref> educated at [King's College, Lagos](/source/King's_College%2C_Lagos) and [ordained](/source/ordained) in 1928.<ref>[Crockford's Clerical Directory](/source/Crockford's_Clerical_Directory)1940-41 Oxford, [OUP](/source/OUP),1941</ref> He was a [Tutor](/source/Tutor) at the [CMS](/source/Church_Mission_Society) Training College at [Awka](/source/Awka) and then held [incumbencies](/source/Vicar)at [Enugu](/source/Enugu_(city)) and [Fourah Bay](/source/Fourah_Bay).
