# Adar River

The **Adar River** (or **Khor Adar**), known to the [Dinka](/source/Dinka_people) as the **Yal**,[1] is a tributary of the [White Nile](/source/White_Nile) in the state of [Upper Nile](/source/Upper_Nile_(state)), [South Sudan](/source/South_Sudan). It flows north west from the [Machar Marshes](/source/Machar_Marshes)[2] and enters the White Nile just upstream of the town of [Melut](/source/Melut).
