# Adam Zabner

**Adam Zabner** (born May 24, 1999) is an American politician who serves as a member of the [Iowa House of Representatives](/source/Iowa_House_of_Representatives) representing the [90th district](/source/Iowa's_90th_House_of_Representatives_district), since January 1, 2023.[1][2]

## Personal life and education

Zabner was born May 24, 1999, in [Iowa City, Iowa](/source/Iowa_City,_Iowa). His parents are [Jewish](/source/Jews) immigrants from [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela). His mother is originally from [Israel](/source/Israel). His father was a student at the [University of Iowa](/source/University_of_Iowa)[3] and initially only planned to stay for three years in the US.[4] Due to his personal background and challenges with [US Immigration](/source/Immigration_to_the_United_States) of his parents, he campaigns for immigration topics as well.[5]

He graduated from [City High School](/source/Iowa_City_High_School) in 2017.[6] In 2021, he graduated from the [University of Chicago](/source/University_of_Chicago) with a [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) in [Neuroscience](/source/Neuroscience).[7]

While visiting China, Adam Zabner's elder brother David was injured in the [2024 Jilin knife attack](/source/2024_Jilin_knife_attack).[8][9][10][11]

## Career

He gained first work experience while being a research assistant at the [University of Iowa](/source/University_of_Iowa) and the [Marine Biological Laboratory](/source/Marine_Biological_Laboratory) in [Woods Hole, Massachusetts](/source/Woods_Hole,_Massachusetts). In 2019, he became an organizing intern, and between 2019 and 2020 an organizer for the campaign of [Pete Buttigieg](/source/Pete_Buttigieg). He then served in the capacity of regional organizing director for the Iowa Democratic Party. He was also an out-of-state volunteer coordinator for [Jon Ossoff](/source/Jon_Ossoff) in his campaign for [U.S. Senate](/source/United_States_Senate).[12][13]

In December 2024, Zabner was selected for the Future Caucus Innovation Fellowship as part of the 2025-2026 Civic Innovation cohort for Gen Z and millennial lawmakers committed to improving civic engagement and democratic processes.[14][15]

## Politics

Zabner won the primary[16] and the general election for [Iowa House of Representatives](/source/Iowa_House_of_Representatives) on November 8, 2022.[17] He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and was re-elected for a second term on November 5, 2024.[18]
