## Early life and education

Stockhausen grew up in [Wauwatosa, Wisconsin](/source/Wauwatosa%2C_Wisconsin) and graduated with a [Theater Arts](/source/Theater_Arts) degree from [Marquette University](/source/Marquette_University)'s [Diederich College of Communication](/source/Diederich_College_of_Communication) in 1995,[1] and a Master of Fine Arts from the [Yale School of Drama](/source/Yale_School_of_Drama) in 1999.[2]

## Career

Stockhausen, along with set decorator [Anna Pinnock](/source/Anna_Pinnock) won the [Academy Award for Best Production Design](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design) for the 2014 film *[The Grand Budapest Hotel](/source/The_Grand_Budapest_Hotel)*.[3] Previously he was nominated for the [Academy Award for Best Production Design](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design) for the 2013 film *[12 Years a Slave](/source/12_Years_a_Slave_(film))* together with set decorator [Alice Baker](/source/Alice_Baker_(set_decorator)).
