Sender graduated from the [University of Michigan](/source/University_of_Michigan) with a Bachelor of Arts in history.<ref name=en/> He began trading stocks as a student.<ref name=opal/> In 1992, he co-founded Argo Explorer, L.P. with Bernie Gartenlaub  <ref name=en/> After college, They ran the Hedge Fund through 1996.
