**Acmaeidae** is a [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) of [sea snails](/source/Sea_snail), specifically true [limpets](/source/Limpet), [marine](/source/Marine_(ocean)) [gastropod](/source/Gastropod) [mollusks](/source/Mollusk) in the superfamily [Lottioidea](/source/Lottioidea) and the subclass [Patellogastropoda](/source/Patellogastropoda) (according to the [taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005](/source/Taxonomy_of_the_Gastropoda_(Bouchet_%26_Rocroi%2C_2005))). ## Taxonomy

Listed as valid family in Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) but this classification revised following the [molecular phylogeny](/source/Molecular_phylogeny) of Nakano & Ozawa (2007). Acmaeinae, including *[Erginus](/source/Erginus)*, was found to be [paraphyletic](/source/Paraphyletic). However, this synonymy was subsequently found incorrect, having been the result of contaminated samples, and *Acmaea mitra* and a related species, *[Niveotectura pallida](/source/Niveotectura_pallida)* form a well-supported clade outside of the [Lottiidae](/source/Lottiidae), and Acmaeidae was re-established.[2]
