# Achimota

**Achimota** (/ɑ:tʃimoʊtɑː/ ah-ch-ee-m-oh-t-ah), is a town in the [Accra Metropolitan District](/source/Accra_Metropolis_District), a [district](/source/Districts_of_Ghana) of the [Greater Accra Region](/source/Greater_Accra_Region) of [Ghana](/source/Ghana).[1] Achimota means "speak no name" in the [Ga language](/source/Ga_language).[2] In pre-colonial Ghana, its forbidden forest was a "silent" refuge for runaway slaves.[2]

## Education

Achimota is known for the eponymous [Achimota School](/source/Achimota_School), as well as the St. John's Grammar School. Achimota is located on the [Accra](/source/Accra) highway just after [Tesano](/source/Tesano) and has well laid buildings, bars and a good nightlife.[3][4][5]

## Healthcare

[Achimota Hospital](/source/Achimota_Hospital), located near the [Achimota Golf Course](/source/Achimota_Golf_Course), is the primary healthcare institution in Achimota.[6]

Achimota is served by a station on the [Ghana Railways](/source/Ghana_Railway_Corporation).[7][8]
