**Abyek** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): آبیک)[a] is a city in the [Central District](/source/Central_District_(Abyek_County)) of [Abyek County](/source/Abyek_County), [Qazvin](/source/Qazvin_province) province, [Iran](/source/Iran), serving as capital of both the county and the district.[5] Abyek lies roughly halfway between [Qazvin](/source/Qazvin) to the northwest and [Karaj](/source/Karaj) to the southeast. It has a major [cement](/source/Cement) factory, which is responsible for [air pollution](/source/Air_pollution) in the area.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

### Ethnicity

Most of the inhabitants of the city are Turkics.[6][7]

### Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 47,233 in 11,989 households.[8] The following census in 2011 counted 55,779 people in 15,917 households.[9] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 60,107 people in 18,520 households.[3]
