Born in [Tift County](/source/Tift_County%2C_Georgia), [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)), Conger received an [Artium Baccalaureus](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree from [Mercer University](/source/Mercer_University) in 1911 and a [Bachelor of Laws](/source/Bachelor_of_Laws) from the [Walter F. George School of Law](/source/Walter_F._George_School_of_Law) at Mercer University in 1912. He was in private practice in [Bainbridge](/source/Bainbridge%2C_Georgia), Georgia from 1912 to 1949, also serving as a member of the [Georgia House of Representatives](/source/Georgia_House_of_Representatives) from 1915 to 1916, and as Mayor of Bainbridge from 1922 to 1923.<ref name="auto">{{FJC Bio|488|nid=1379396|name=Abraham Benjamin Conger<!--(1887–1953)-->}}</ref>

==Federal judicial service==

On May 19, 1949, Conger was nominated by President [Harry S. Truman](/source/Harry_S._Truman) to a new seat on the [United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia](/source/United_States_District_Court_for_the_Middle_District_of_Georgia) created by 63 Stat. 16. He was confirmed by the [United States Senate](/source/United_States_Senate) on June 2, 1949, and received his commission on June 6, 1949. He served until his death on December 9, 1953.<ref name="auto"/>
