**Aaron Rene Doornekamp** (born December 5, 1985) is a Canadian-Dutch[1][2] professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player for [Lenovo Tenerife](/source/CB_1939_Canarias) of the Spanish [Liga ACB](/source/Liga_ACB). He was one of the greatest players in the history of the [Carleton University Ravens](/source/Carleton_Ravens) men's college basketball team.[3] Doornekamp is also a member of the senior [Canadian men's national team](/source/Canada_men's_national_basketball_team). At a height of 2.01 m (6 ft 7 in) tall, he can play at both the [small forward](/source/Small_forward) and [power forward](/source/Power_forward_(basketball)) positions, with power forward being his main position.[4][5]

## University career

Doornekamp was named CIS Men's Basketball Player of the year,[6] and [OUA](/source/Ontario_University_Athletics) Male Athlete of the Year, in 2008.[7] He was a member of the Carleton Ravens Canadian national championship teams in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009, and he won the MVP award at the [2007 final eight tournament](/source/2007_CIS_Men's_Basketball_Championship).[8]

## Professional career

After finishing his college career, Doornekamp signed his first pro contract in Italy, with [Pepsi Caserta](/source/Pepsi_Caserta).[9] He played three years with the club. While sidelined with injury in the 2012–13 season, Doornekamp was the [assistant coach](/source/Basketball_coach) of the [McMaster Marauders](/source/McMaster_Marauders) men's basketball team.

In August 2013, he signed with the [New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig](/source/New_Yorker_Phantoms_Braunschweig), from [Braunschweig](/source/Braunschweig), [Germany](/source/Germany).[10] In June 2014, he parted ways with them.[11]

On June 29, 2014, he signed with the German club [Skyliners Frankfurt](/source/Skyliners_Frankfurt), for the 2014–15 season.[12] He won the [European-wide third-tier level](/source/European_professional_club_basketball_system) [FIBA Europe Cup](/source/FIBA_Europe_Cup)'s [2015–16 season](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_FIBA_Europe_Cup) championship with the team.[13]

In June 2016, Doornekamp left Germany, to sign with the Spanish team [Iberostar Tenerife](/source/CB_1939_Canarias).[14] He won the [Basketball Champions League](/source/Basketball_Champions_League)'s [2016–17 season](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Basketball_Champions_League) championship with the team. He was also named to the [BCL Star Lineup Best Team](/source/Basketball_Champions_League_Star_Lineup).[15] On June 27, 2017, Doornekamp officially opted out of his contract with the Spanish team.[16] The same day, he signed a two-year contract with [Valencia Basket](/source/Valencia_Basket).[17] On July 8, 2019, Doornekamp re-signed with [Valencia Basket](/source/Valencia_Basket) for another season.[18] He signed with [Iberostar Tenerife](/source/CB_1939_Canarias) on July 15, 2020.[19]

## National team career

Doornekamp was a member of the junior national teams of Canada. With Canada's junior national team, he played at the 2005 [FIBA Under-21 World Championship](/source/FIBA_Under-21_World_Championship), where he won a bronze medal. He has also been a member of the senior men's [Canadian national basketball team](/source/Canada_men's_national_basketball_team).

With Canada's senior team, he played at the following tournaments: the [2007 Pan American Games](/source/Basketball_at_the_2007_Pan_American_Games), the [2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament](/source/2008_FIBA_World_Olympic_Qualifying_Tournament_for_Men), the [2009 FIBA Americas Championship](/source/2009_FIBA_Americas_Championship), the [2010 FIBA World Championship](/source/2010_FIBA_World_Championship), the [2011 FIBA Americas Championship](/source/2011_FIBA_Americas_Championship), the [2013 FIBA Americas Championship](/source/2013_FIBA_Americas_Championship), and the [2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament](/source/2020_FIBA_Men's_Olympic_Qualifying_Tournaments). He also played at the [2015 Pan American Games](/source/Basketball_at_the_2015_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_tournament), where he won a silver medal, and the [2015 FIBA Americas Championship](/source/2015_FIBA_Americas_Championship), where he won a bronze medal.[20] In the semifinals of the [2015 FIBA Americas Championship](/source/2015_FIBA_Americas_Championship), which also served as the qualifying tournament for the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics), Doornekamp had a controversial loose-ball foul called on him in the last second of Canada's game against Venezuela, giving Venezuela free throws to win the game 79-78 and qualify for the Olympics, while Canada would ultimately fail to qualify.
