**ALTT**, formerly **ALTBalaji**,[3] was an Indian subscription based [video on demand](/source/Video_on_demand) platform and a wholly owned subsidiary of [Balaji Telefilms](/source/Balaji_Telefilms).[4][5][6] Launched on 16 April 2017, ALTBalaji became Balaji Telefilms' foray into the digital entertainment sphere to create original [OTT](/source/Over-the-top_media_service) content.[7][8]

In July 2025, it was banned by the [government of India](/source/Government_of_India) citing obscenity.[9] Balaji Telefilms went onto replace ALTT with Kutingg, a family friendly streaming platform.

## Platforms

ALTT was an Indian content-based video-on-demand platform. ALTT was available across 32 different interfaces for its viewers.[10] The content had been made available on [mobile](/source/Mobile_phone) and [Tablet Devices](/source/Tablet_Device) ([Apple phone](/source/Apple_phone), [Apple iPad](/source/Apple_iPad), [Android phone](/source/Android_phone), Android tablet), [Web browser](/source/Web_browser) (Desktop Browser), [Chromecast](/source/Chromecast), [Android TV](/source/Android_TV), [Apple TV](/source/Apple_TV_(device)), [Amazon Fire TV](/source/Amazon_Fire_TV), [Roku](/source/Roku), and [Windows](/source/Windows) ([Windows PC](/source/Windows_PC), [Windows Mobile](/source/Windows_Mobile), Windows tablet).[11][12][13][14] The website indicated that the platform will showcase over 250+ hours of original content with a new show every month, with 32 new shows lined up in the first year, featuring [India](/source/India)'s top actors and directors.[7] The content bank also included 100+ hours of kids' content as well as urban regional shows in [Bengali](/source/Bengali_language), [Hindi](/source/Hindi_language), [Marathi](/source/Marathi_language), [Punjabi](/source/Punjabi_language), [Tamil](/source/Tamil_language) and other languages.[15][16][17][18]

## Controversy

An [FIR](/source/First_information_report) was filed against filmmaker [Ekta Kapoor](/source/Ekta_Kapoor), alleging an insult to the national emblem, Hindu gods and army personnel in ALTBalaji's [*XXX*](/source/XXX_(web_series)) web series. Ekta's representatives have since said that the controversial scene has been removed.[83]

A case has been filed against producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, [Shobha Kapoor](/source/Shobha_Kapoor), over allegations of inappropriate scenes involving minors in an episode of the web-series "[Gandii Baat](/source/Gandii_Baat)" on ALT Balaji over the case registered against them under the POCSO act.[84]

ALTT was among 25 apps banned by the [Ministry of Information and Broadcasting](/source/Ministry_of_Information_and_Broadcasting_(India)) in July 2025 over "obscene, vulgar and in some cases, pornographic content". Balaji Telefilms replaced the streaming website with Kutingg, a family friendly streaming platform.[85][86]
