Road in Asia

**Asian Highway 76** (**AH76**) is a major road of northern [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan). It connects [Pole khomri](/source/Pole_khomri) at [AH7](/source/AH7) to [Mazar-i-Sharif](/source/Mazar-i-Sharif), passing through [Samangan](/source/Aybak%2C_Samangan) on the way, and then passes west and eventually ends at [Herat](/source/Herat), where it unites with [AH1](/source/AH1) and [AH77](/source/AH77) At Mazar-e-Sharif the road continues and joins the [A01](/source/Highway_1_(Afghanistan)) and [AH77](/source/AH77) highways.[1][2] Another road passes north from the A76 and connects it to [Termiz](/source/Termiz) in southern [Uzbekistan](/source/Uzbekistan). Note though that this "other road" is often regarded as a continuation of the A76, although it is actually part of the historical [Pamir Highway](/source/M41_highway), now known as the [M41 highway](/source/M41_highway) ([AH62](/source/AH62)). This road links Mazar-i-Sharif across the [Amu Darya](/source/Amu_Darya) river, to Termiz. The Pamir Highway or the M41 is an extremely important highway of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which connects Termiz to [Kara Balta](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kara_Balta&action=edit&redlink=1) to the west of [Bishkek](/source/Bishkek) and links with the M39 highway twice at both cities.

The AH76 begins in [Pole khomri](/source/Pole_khomri) at [35°58′30″N 68°58′30″E / 35.97500°N 68.97500°E / 35.97500; 68.97500](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=AH76&params=35_58_30_N_68_58_30_E_) from [Asian Highway 1](/source/Asian_Highway_1). The route is the following:
