# A. Gordon Wetmore

**Arnold Gordon Wetmore** was an American [theologian](/source/Theologian) who was president emeritus of the [Nazarene Theological Seminary](/source/Nazarene_Theological_Seminary) and a former president of the [Northwest Nazarene College](/source/Northwest_Nazarene_College).

## Early life and education

Wetmore was born on June 24, 1931, in [New Brunswick, Canada](/source/New_Brunswick,_Canada).[1] Wetmore received his [undergraduate](/source/Undergraduate) degree at the [Eastern Nazarene College](/source/Eastern_Nazarene_College) in [Massachusetts](/source/Massachusetts). He then earned a [doctor of ministry](/source/Doctor_of_ministry) degree from [Fuller Theological Seminary](/source/Fuller_Theological_Seminary). He has also received two honorary degrees.[2]

## Career and ministry

Wetmore pastored churches in [Quincy, Massachusetts](/source/Quincy,_Massachusetts), [Kansas City, Missouri](/source/Kansas_City,_Missouri), [Columbus, Ohio](/source/Columbus,_Ohio), and [Monroe, Wisconsin](/source/Monroe,_Wisconsin), in addition to serving as dean of students at his [alma mater](/source/Alma_mater), [Eastern Nazarene College](/source/Eastern_Nazarene_College).[3] In 1983, Wetmore was elected president of the Northwest Nazarene College and served there until 1992,[2] when he was elected president of the Nazarene Theological Seminary.[4] He retired in 2000 and lived with his wife in [Olathe, Kansas](/source/Olathe,_Kansas),[3] until his death on June 9, 2016.[5]
