2006 Canadian film awards ceremony

The **8th [Jutra Awards](/source/Jutra_Awards)** were held on March 19, 2006 to honour films made with the participation of the [Quebec film industry](/source/Cinema_of_Quebec) in 2005.[1] Nominations were announced on February 8.[2]

[Jean-Marc Vallée](/source/Jean-Marc_Vall%C3%A9e)'s *[C.R.A.Z.Y.](/source/C.R.A.Z.Y.)* dominated the ceremony. With fourteen nominations, a record, it swept each of the thirteen categories it was nominated in; only [Pierre-Luc Brillant](/source/Pierre-Luc_Brillant) lost the award for [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actor) against his co-star [Michel Côté](/source/Michel_C%C3%B4t%C3%A9_(actor)). The movie also won the award for [Most Successful Film Outside Quebec](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Most_Successful_Film_Outside_Quebec) and the [Billet d'or](/source/Prix_Iris_Public_Prize) award, bringing its total to fifteen awards, also a record. The film also won three acting awards, the first film to do so and the first film to win both [Best Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actor) and [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actor).

*[Audition](/source/Audition_(2005_film)) (L'audition)* received ten nominations, winning [Best Original Music](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Original_Music) for [Daniel Bélanger](/source/Daniel_B%C3%A9langer), while *[The Novena](/source/The_Novena) (La neuvaine)* received eight nominations, including all the "Big Five" categories, with [Élise Guilbault](/source/%C3%89lise_Guilbault) winning her second [Best Actress](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actress) award after *[The Woman Who Drinks](/source/The_Woman_Who_Drinks) (La femme qui boit)*.

*[The Rocket](/source/The_Rocket_(2005_film)) (Maurice Richard)* also received a record fourteen nominations, including all the "Big Five" categories, but ended up losing in every category, making it the film with the most nominations to win no awards. However, director [Charles Binamé](/source/Charles_Binam%C3%A9) won the award for [Best Documentary](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Documentary_Film) in a tie with [Sylvie Groulx](/source/Sylvie_Groulx), the second time a tie happened in this category. They respectively won for *[Gilles Carle: The Untamable Mind](/source/Gilles_Carle%3A_The_Untamable_Mind)* and *[La Classe de Madame Lise](/source/La_Classe_de_Madame_Lise)*.
