***53 Sundays*** (Spanish: ***53 domingos***) is a 2026 Spanish comedy-drama film written and directed by [Cesc Gay](/source/Cesc_Gay) based on his own play *53 diumenges*. It stars [Javier Cámara](/source/Javier_C%C3%A1mara), [Carmen Machi](/source/Carmen_Machi), [Javier Gutiérrez](/source/Javier_Guti%C3%A9rrez_(actor)), and [Alexandra Jiménez](/source/Alexandra_Jim%C3%A9nez).

## Plot

Three siblings gather in a family meeting to decide what to do with their 86-year-old father.[1][2]

## Production

Netflix showcased the project at the [72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival](/source/72nd_San_Sebasti%C3%A1n_International_Film_Festival) in September 2024.[4] An Imposible Films production,[5] the film is an adaptation of Gay's play *53 diumenges*, that premiered in 2020 at the [Teatre Romea](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Teatre_Romea&action=edit&redlink=1) [[ca](https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teatre_Romea_(Barcelona))].[6] Shooting primarily took place in the Netflix production hub in [Tres Cantos](/source/Tres_Cantos) as well as in several locations in the centre of [Madrid](/source/Madrid).[7][1]

Andreu Rebés worked as cinematographer, using an [Arri Alexa](/source/Arri_Alexa) 35 camera and Leica Summilux C lenses.[5] Arnau Bataller was the composer.[8]

## Release

[Netflix](/source/Netflix) is set to release the film on 27 March 2026.[6]

## Reception

Enid Román Almansa of *[Cinemanía](/source/Cineman%C3%ADa)* rated the film 4 out of 5 stars, welcoming how Gay "wonderfully" turns a trite premise (the story of three completely different siblings) "into something fresh and really fun".[9]
