'''47 Tauri''' (abbreviated to '''47 Tau''') is a [binary star](/source/binary_star) in the zodiac [constellation](/source/constellation) of [Taurus](/source/Taurus_(constellation)). [Parallax](/source/Stellar_parallax) measurements made by the [Hipparcos](/source/Hipparcos) spacecraft put it at a distance of about 330 [light-year](/source/light-year)s (102 [parsec](/source/parsec)s) from [Earth](/source/Earth). The system has a combined [apparent magnitude](/source/apparent_magnitude) of about 4.89,<ref name=SIMBAD/> meaning it can be faintly seen with the [naked eye](/source/naked_eye), according to the [Bortle scale](/source/Bortle_scale).

47 Tauri is a visual binary, meaning that the two components can be resolved, and the orbit is derived from the positions of the two stars. The primary component is a [G-type](/source/G-type_star) [giant](/source/giant_star). Its radius is about 13 times that of the [Sun](/source/Sun).<ref name=CADARS/> The companion is likely a white-colored [A-type main-sequence star](/source/A-type_main-sequence_star) that is fainter. The two stars are separated about 1.3 arcseconds away,<ref name=SIMBAD/> and because of their large separation, the two stars take some 479 years to complete an orbit.<ref name=ORB6/>
