In the 1980s Tea was considered as a target for the planned French [''Vesta'' spacecraft](/source/Vesta_(spacecraft)).<ref>{{Cite journal|url=http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-bib_query?bibcode=1985S%26T....69..507B&db_key=AST&data_type=HTML&format=&high=444b66a47d22969|bibcode=1985S&T....69..507B|title=A Radar Tour of Venus|last1=Beatty|first1=J. Tea was discovered by [Auguste Charlois](/source/Auguste_Charlois) on February 22, 1900. Its provisional name was '''1900 FA'''. It is unknown after what it was named.<ref>{{cite book |last=Schmadel |first=Lutz D. |title=Dictionary of Minor Planet Names |url=https://www.scribd.com/doc/5570999/Dictionary-of-Minor-Planet-Names |date=2003 |publisher=Springer |location=Berlin, Heidelberg, New York |isbn=3-540-00238-3 |page=51 |url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140314234547/http://www.scribd.com/doc/5570999/Dictionary-of-Minor-Planet-Names |archive-date=2014-03-14 }}</ref>

It came to [opposition](/source/Opposition_(astronomy)) at [apparent magnitude](/source/apparent_magnitude) 12.2 on 3 May 2023 and then [perihelion](/source/perihelion) on 27 May 2023.<ref name="jpldata"/>
