[Republicans](/source/Oregon_Republican_Party) held overwhelming majorities over the [Democrats](/source/Democratic_Party_of_Oregon) in both the [Senate](/source/Oregon_State_Senate) (25–5) and the [House of Representatives](/source/Oregon_House_of_Representatives) (58–2). The body held no special sessions. The [Senate President](/source/List_of_Presidents_of_the_Oregon_State_Senate) was [Marshall E. Cornett](/source/Marshall_E._Cornett) (R–17 [Klamath Falls](/source/Klamath_Falls,_Oregon)) and the [Speaker of the House](/source/List_of_Speakers_of_the_Oregon_House_of_Representatives) was [John Hubert Hall](/source/John_Hubert_Hall) (R–5 [Portland](/source/Portland,_Oregon)).[1] On 1947-10-28, Cornett died in [a plane crash near Lakeview, Oregon](/source/1947_Oregon_Beechcraft_Bonanza_crash), along with governor [Earl Snell](/source/Earl_Snell) and secretary of state [Robert S.
