2020 Canadian film awards ceremony

The **22nd [Quebec Cinema Awards](/source/Prix_Iris)** were presented on 10 June 2020,[1] to recognize talent and achievement in the [cinema of Quebec](/source/Cinema_of_Quebec). The planned 7 June ceremony was cancelled due to the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic_in_Quebec), but nominees were announced 23 April.[2] [Abenaki](/source/Abenaki) documentary filmmaker [Alanis Obomsawin](/source/Alanis_Obomsawin) was also selected as the recipient of the Iris Tribute at the unanimous recommendation of [Québec Cinéma](/source/Qu%C3%A9bec_Cin%C3%A9ma)'s Comité de représentation professionnelle.[3]

Following the ceremony's cancellation, Québec Cinéma announced that on 10 June, most winners would be announced by [webcast](/source/Webcast) by [Radio-Canada](/source/Canadian_Broadcasting_Corporation) and [ARTV](/source/ARTV), with the webcast hosted by [Élise Guilbault](/source/%C3%89lise_Guilbault), [Guillaume Lambert](/source/Guillaume_Lambert) and [Mani Soleymanlou](/source/Mani_Soleymanlou); following this, [Jean-Philippe Wauthier](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jean-Philippe_Wauthier&action=edit&redlink=1) hosted his show *[Bonsoir Bonsoir!](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bonsoir_Bonsoir!&action=edit&redlink=1)* where the winners for [Best Film](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Film), [Best Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actor), [Best Actress](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actress) and the [Public Prize](/source/Prix_Iris_Public_Prize) were announced.[1]

*[And the Birds Rained Down](/source/And_the_Birds_Rained_Down) (Il pleuvait des oiseaux)* received thirteen nominations, the most of the ceremony, and became the fifth film to receive a nomination in all four acting categories (not including Revelation of the Year). It won three awards, including two acting awards: [Andrée Lachapelle](/source/Andr%C3%A9e_Lachapelle) posthumously won [Best Actress](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actress) while [Gilbert Sicotte](/source/Gilbert_Sicotte) became the fourth person to receive three acting award and the first actor to win [Best Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actor) three times.

*[Antigone](/source/Antigone_(2019_film))* was the night's big winner, winning six awards from eight nominations, including [Best Film](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Film), [Best Director](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Director), [Best Screenplay](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Screenplay) and [Revelation of the Year](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Revelation_of_the_Year) for [Nahéma Ricci](/source/Nah%C3%A9ma_Ricci).[4]

*[Mafia Inc.](/source/Mafia_Inc.)* received ten nominations and won [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actor) for [Sergio Castellitto](/source/Sergio_Castellitto), while *[The Twentieth Century](/source/The_Twentieth_Century_(film))* received nine nominations and won four awards. Other winners include *[Matthias & Maxime](/source/Matthias_%26_Maxime)* who took home three awards from seven nominations, including [Best Supporting Actress](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actress) for [Micheline Bernard](/source/Micheline_Bernard), and *[Sympathy for the Devil](/source/Sympathy_for_the_Devil_(2019_film))* who won three awards from six nominations.

[Robin Aubert](/source/Robin_Aubert) became the sixth performer to receive two acting nominations during the same ceremony, for [Best Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actor) and [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actor), but he didn't win either award.

Although the awards were ordinated as the 22nd Quebec Cinema Awards at the time of presentation, due to their presentation as a livestream rather than a traditional award ceremony Québec Cinéma opted to also enumerate its 2021 ceremony as the 22nd Quebec Cinema Awards instead of the 23rd; however, the awards in 2022 were numbered as the [24th Quebec Cinema Awards](/source/24th_Quebec_Cinema_Awards) instead of the 23rd, indicating that the 2021 awards are now considered the [23rd Quebec Cinema Awards](/source/23rd_Quebec_Cinema_Awards).[5]
