The season began on 4 April and ended on 27 September 2025.[4][5][6] [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) were the defending champions.[7] [Nottinghamshire](/source/Nottinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club) won the title for the seventh time in the club's history and the first since [2010](/source/2010_County_Championship).[8][9] ## Teams The teams were split based on the finishing positions in the [2024 season](/source/2024_County_Championship).
