It was the eighth edition of the [Shenzhen Open](/source/WTA_Shenzhen_Open), and part of the [WTA International tournaments](/source/WTA_International_tournaments) of the [2020 WTA Tour](/source/2020_WTA_Tour). It took place at the [Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center](/source/Shenzhen_Longgang_Sports_Center) in [Shenzhen](/source/Shenzhen), China, from 5 January until 11 January 2020.
