Player selection process

2015 WNBA draft General information Sport Basketball Date 16 April Location Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut Networks ESPN2, ESPNU Overview League WNBA First selection Jewell Loyd Seattle Storm ← 2014 2016 →

The **[2015](/source/2015_WNBA_season) [WNBA](/source/Women's_National_Basketball_Association) [draft](/source/WNBA_draft)** was the league's draft for the [2015 WNBA season](/source/2015_WNBA_season).[1] The [Seattle Storm](/source/Seattle_Storm) [picked first](/source/List_of_first_overall_WNBA_draft_picks).

This year's draft was unusual in that two players with remaining college eligibility declared for the draft—[Jewell Loyd](/source/Jewell_Loyd) of [Notre Dame](/source/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_women's_basketball), who had one year of eligibility remaining, and [Amanda Zahui B.](/source/Amanda_Zahui_B.) of [Minnesota](/source/Minnesota_Golden_Gophers_women's_basketball), with two years remaining. Both players were draft-eligible by virtue of their births in 1993; under current draft rules, players who turn 22 in the calendar year of the draft can declare themselves eligible even if they have not completed college eligibility.[2] Before this season, only two players with remaining college eligibility had ever entered the WNBA draft, and only one of these did so before her fourth college season ([Kelsey Bone](/source/Kelsey_Bone) in [2012](/source/2012_WNBA_draft)).[3]

## Draft lottery

The lottery selection to determine the order of the top four picks in the 2015 draft occurred on August 21, 2014. The team that would get the first pick would be the winner of the lottery.[4]
