It was the 5th edition of the [Malaysian Open](/source/Malaysian_Open_(tennis)) and was an [International tournament](/source/WTA_International_tournaments) on the [2014 WTA Tour](/source/2014_WTA_Tour). The tournament took place from April 14 to 20 at the [Royal Selangor Golf Club](/source/Royal_Selangor_Golf_Club).
