It was the third edition of the [Malaysian Open](/source/Malaysian_Open_(tennis)) and was an [International tournament](/source/WTA_International_tournaments) on the [2012 WTA Tour](/source/2012_WTA_Tour). The tournament took place from February 27 to March 4 at the [Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort](/source/Bukit_Kiara_Sports_Complex). [Hsieh Su-wei](/source/Hsieh_Su-wei) won the singles title.
