It was the 37th edition of the [Heineken Open](/source/Heineken_Open_(tennis)), and was part of the [ATP World Tour 250 series](/source/ATP_World_Tour_250_series) of the [2012 ATP World Tour](/source/2012_ATP_World_Tour). It took place at the [ASB Tennis Centre](/source/ASB_Tennis_Centre) in [Auckland](/source/Auckland), New Zealand, from 9 January to 14 January 2012. First-seeded [David Ferrer](/source/David_Ferrer) won the singles title, his 3rd win at the event after 2007 and 2011.
