It was the fourth edition of the [HP Open](/source/HP_Open), and part of the [WTA International tournaments](/source/WTA_International_tournaments) of the [2012 WTA Tour](/source/2012_WTA_Tour). It was held at the [Utsubo Tennis Center](/source/Utsubo_Tennis_Center) in [Osaka](/source/Osaka), Japan, from October 8 through October 14, 2012. Unseeded [Heather Watson](/source/Heather_Watson) won the singles title.
