The **World Group** was the highest level of [Fed Cup](/source/Fed_Cup) competition in 2012. Eight nations competed in a three-round knockout competition. [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic_Fed_Cup_team) was the defending champion, and they successfully defended their title by defeating first-time finalists [Serbia](/source/Serbia_Fed_Cup_team) in the final.[1][2][3]
